1. (1) As a Financial Times article on Turki's op-ed notes, “The prince's article recalls the letters that King Abdullah, as crown prince, sent to George W. Bush in 2001, warning that the kingdom would review relations with the US unless the administration adopted a forceful push for Middle East peace. The letters rang alarm bells in Washington but were soon overshadowed by the September 11 attacks, which involved a group of Saudis. It was only after Riyadh launched its own campaign against terrorism two years later and started addressing the root causes of radicalism that ties with the US improved again.” In other words, we've experienced such a threat before, to little effect.
   1-जैसा कि फाइनांसियेल टाइम्स ने तुर्की के सम्पादकीय लेख पर अपने आलेख में कहा है, “ राजकुमार का लेख उन पत्रों की याद दिलाता है जो राजा अब्दुल्ला ने राजकुमार रहते हुए 2001 में जार्ज बुश को लिखा था और चेतावनी दी थी कि यदि अमेरिकी प्रशासन ने मध्य पूर्व में शक्तिशाली ढंग से शांति प्रक्रिया आरम्भ नहीं की तो राज्य अमेरिका के साथ अपने सम्बन्धों की पुनर्व्याख्या करेगा। इन पत्रों ने वाशिंगटन में खतरे की घण्टी बजा दी लेकिन 11 सितम्बर के आक्रमण के उपरांत यह बात दब गयी जिसमें कुछ सउदी नगरिक भी शामिल थे। यह तो दो वर्ष के बाद जब रियाद ने स्वयं आतंकवाद के विरुद्ध अपना अभियान आरम्भ किया और कट्टरपंथ के मूल कारण की जाँच आरम्भ की तभी सयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के साथ सम्बन्ध सामान्य हुए, “ दूसरे शब्दों में ऐसे खतरे का अभ्यास हमें है जिसका बहुत कम प्रभाव हुआ” ।
